Building Interreligious Confidence in Osh Province

On July 5 in Osh city an event was held on building inter-religious trust between representatives of the Inter-religious and Inter-ethnic Council of Osh city and Osh oblast. The participants were leaders and representatives of various religions and religious organizations of Osh province. The purpose of the event is to strengthen inter-religious dialogue on the basis of shared values and interests, promotion of religious tolerance and mutual agreement. The event is initiated by the State Commission on Religious Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic with the technical support of the Research Center for Religious Studies and the representative office of Search for Common Ground Kyrgyzstan.

The program of building inter-religious trust included intellectual games aimed at increasing knowledge of Kyrgyz culture and traditions, collective installation of a yurt as a symbol of unity of the Kyrgyz people, joint preparation of national dishes, contests and games to bring young people together.

The message of the event is that Kyrgyzstan has a rich history in which there is room for a variety of nationalities and religions. Believers of different nationalities have cohabited here for many centuries. In today's world, in order to respond to global problems and challenges, we need to be able to build benevolent relationships with each other and remain united. Every religion has the potential to benefit the whole community. Interfaith harmony-building events are designed to promote this potential in Kyrgyzstan.

The event included the re-election of the Chairman of the Inter-religious and Inter-ethnic Council of Osh City and Osh Province. The event was accompanied by an official part with the participation of representatives of the State Commission on Religious Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Osh City Hall.
