Meeting of religious leaders and government agencies to strengthen interreligious dialogue

On July 14 in the city of Naryn a meeting of representatives of various religions and denominations of Naryn oblast is being held to discuss the formation of a regional Interfaith Council. The purpose of the event is to strengthen inter-religious dialogue and promote positive interaction between representatives of different religious denominations.

The dialogue was initiated by the State Commission on Religious Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic with the assistance of the Research Center for Religious Studies and technical support from Search for Common Ground in Kyrgyzstan.

The program includes introductions of representatives of various religions, presentations on joint initiatives of the Republican Interdenominational Council, as well as discussions with participants about the need to form an interdenominational council in the Naryn region, the opportunities for joint activities, and the most pressing issues and ways to address them in communities.

The Republican Interfaith Council of Kyrgyzstan was founded in Bishkek in 2018 to increase cooperation between different religions in Kyrgyzstan and promote tolerant relations and mutual understanding.

This year, the State Commission on Religious Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, with the assistance of the Research Center for Religious Studies and the Search for Common Ground office in Kyrgyzstan, will initiate the formation of interfaith councils already at the regional level.
